    Manageing techniques for ODD
Tips for coping with some of the symptoms of ODD:

  • Create an environment where child will not fail.
  • Always build on the positive, and minimise the negative
  • Discipline by using consequences and be consistent. Consistency is very important as this shows the child that you are not going to give in to his or her demands
  • Make consequences as immediate as possible. For example, your child does not do a task on Sunday and you say that he is grounded on Tuesday; this is to long between the unwanted act and the grounding.
  • Implement the consequence as soon as the unwanted action takes place.
  • Contact a coach to help you deal with your ODD child a coach will support you and help you find a way of coping and overcoming the difficulties that are occurring
  • Take time for yourself, this is very important you need to have a few hours away from the home. A time that you take for you to do what you want to do.

    Tips for ODD children /students
Helpful techniques for children & students trying to cope with their ODD
  • To help keep your feelings and emotions under control. Try using a daily diary to keep yourself organised. This will help you stop the feelings of being inadequate around forgetting things.

  • Make your room your peaceful place. You can use this room to go and calm down when you are feeling angry and you need to take yourself away from a situation. Play music that is calming, listen to your breathing, with each deep breath you take you will feel yourself becoming calmer. Stay in your room until you feel that are more able to deal with what ever had made you feel angry.
  • Don't skip coaching sessions, talk to your coach about what is going on in your life. A coach will help you to recognise what your anxieties are and together you will find ways of dealing with that anxiety.
  • Writing your feelings down will help you to stop acting on them.
  • Keep reminding yourself what you want to accomplish today.

As a coach I can help you to start and make those changes
